A front yard turf transformation….

Our initial garden consultation with Diana took place in September 2021. We then had a follow up visit with an irrigation specialist in 2023 to weigh options for a larger yard turf transformation. The time was finally right for the first phase of her front yard garden dream to come to reality in spring 2024.

Diana and her young daughter helped build their raised bed with us. First, we lined the bottom of the garden bed with 1/4” hardware cloth to keep out burrowing critters, then filled it with a layer of cardboard to keep back any potential grass that might still creep up through the soil, and layered in sunflower stalks from the previous growing season before topping it off with high quality raised bed soil and a mini hoophouse- for season extension and to keep neighborhood deer out of the garden.

We made a personalized crop plan together to maximize the 32 square feet of growing space and keep it in continuous production. We helped plant the first succession and then Diana and her family referenced their crop plan to keep the garden growing all season long!

We met again in Spring 2025 to modify Diana’s crop plan based on the previous season’s experience, and then, Diana inspired her neighbor to invest in a garden bed, too!
