Garden Lessons
Whether you have a small container garden, a space for many garden beds, are new to gardening, or have years of experience, we can support you in achieving your gardening goals.
While gardening alongside you, we share strategies for maximizing time and space in Central Oregon’s short, unpredictable growing season. We provide guidance in extending the harvest season and planting, caring for, harvesting, cooking, and eating plants.
You can count on us to take away the overwhelm of getting your garden started, whether that’s in the spring, summer or fall. We can support you through an entire growing season or two, equipping you with knowledge, tools, and resources to continue learning and growing on your own so we can move on to help inspire and empower more edible gardeners in our community!
Depending on your interests and garden needs, we can informally guide your learning through check-in visits on timely topics or we can schedule more formal lessons on relevant garden topics of your interest:
Planting methods for seeds and starts
Specific needs of different vegetables and ideal planting times for Central Oregon
Spacing to increase your yield in your available space
Irrigation practices
Utilizing season extension techniques, like row cover, greenhouse plastic, cold frames, greenhouses, and shade cloth
Pests and diseases
Harvest techniques and post harvest handling
Soil health and fertility
Knife skills, recipes, and preserving your harvest
For young children, we offer inquiry based garden activities to increase their willingness to try different vegetables and engage with the natural world, as well as connect with and practice academic skills.
We can bring all the supplies (seeds, plant starts, organic fertilizer, and tools) to bring your personalized crop plan to life or you can provide them.
Lesson packages include responses to occasional email and text messages, and up to 15 minute phone calls for inquiries that may come up for you in between visits.
