Of course, our raised garden beds, season extension tools, personalized crop plans and garden lessons make great year-round gifts! We also have gift certificates! BUG swag, garden tools, and gift packages are all available in our online shop.

If you’re looking for additional high quality gift ideas, though, scroll down to see a few of our recommendations. All of these ideas have definitely improved the quality of our own garden experiences or have come highly recommended to us by Central Oregon gardeners we’ve worked with!

Outdoor furniture: Our garden space is part of our outdoor sanctuary. We agonized over whether to invest in Outer’s high quality and super comfortable outdoor sofa. In the end, we went with their wicker couch made of recycled plastic water bottles and definitely don’t regret it!

Outer believes that outdoor living should be an extension of our homes, and indeed, many of our guests have claimed that our Outer couch is more comfortable than their living room couches! It truly completed our outdoor sanctuary during pandemic times, acting as an extension of our house, allowing us to socialize outdoors.

Outer focuses on longevity and sustainability by thinking into the future with intuitive innovations that are good for people in their everyday lives and better for the future of our planet than the majority of cheap outdoor furniture on the market.

Since our purchase, Outer has now expanded its line into teak and aluminum, as well as other outdoor furniture and accessories. We started with a 3 seater couch, and then added on later to make a larger gathering space around our fire table. It’s awesome! We love the built in covers that protect the fabric from snow and rain in windy conditions.

Ladies workwear: The founders of Dovetail Workwear had a landscaping business and dreamed of better work pants! Dovetail’s mission is to encourage women to enter and succeed in non-traditional occupations. They are based in Portland and choose their global suppliers not only for their great craftsmanship, but for their ethical labor and environmental practices.

Dovetail clothes have definitely become part of our official unofficial BUG uniform. We have acquired a wardrobe of pants and overalls, from lighter weight to thermal lined, because they simply are incredibly comfortable and durable. Their gloves and socks are pretty awesome, too!

Microgreens: Growing micro greens at home can be a gateway to outdoor gardening for aspiring gardeners who think they lack a green thumb. We enjoy micro greens all season long as we thin our direct sown crops out in our garden, but in the winter, we have constant successions of basil, cilantro, and salad mixes growing in our kitchen garden window. They add such a wonderful burst of fresh flavor to hearty winter meals.

There are many low cost ways to grow micro greens, as we’ve done in our kitchen with tofu containers and old clam shell containers inside seedling trays, but Hamama products are way more stylish and make getting started in micro green growing so simple! Choose from a variety of tray styles and organic seeds.

Edible Landscaping Education: Do you know a professional landscaper who wants to incorporate more ecological practices into their services? A horticulture student? Someone with a permaculture design certificate who is thinking about taking the next step in their career as a designer and installer?

They may benefiit from the Foodscaper Summit, a virtual conference, on January 18 and 19th, 2023. It’s a great opportunity to learn from leading edible landscapers in 13+ sessions, 4 live panels (Ashley will be presenting in one!), and numerous networking opportunities!
